Lib Dems take control of council

The Liberal Democrats are to take charge of Cheltenham Borough Council, which remained hung after the 1 May local elections.

The decision followed a vote in the council chamber on Thursday night.

The Lib Dems gained three seats in the election and now have 20 councillors. Labour lost their only seat and the Conservatives kept their 17 seats.

Lib Dem group leader Steve Jordan was uncontested in a bid to become leader of the council.

The People Against Bureaucracy group has three councillors.
