A 10-year-old boy has been arrested after an alleged firearms incident at a school in the Forst of Dean.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire police confirmed officers were called to a school on Tuesday following the discharge of an air weapon.

"A 10-year-old boy has subsequently been arrested and is in police custody," the police spokesman added.

A pupil at the school was treated by first aider for minor injuries before being allowed home.

Jo Grills of Gloucestershire County Council said: "I would like to reassure parents that this was an isolated and unprecedented occurrence in one of our schools.

"We have recently conducted an online survey of children in Gloucestershire schools and, of these, 82% of primary aged pupils said that they feel safe at school."
